The first aim of the
project was to develop and implement a framework for
the delivery of patient care, which would incorporate
physical, psychological, social and emotional
assessment. A further aim was to facilitate continuity
of care across the treatment trajectory by enhancing
communication between nursing specialities.

A project to identify and implement a more
appropriate model of nursing to inform the care of
breast cancer patients was carried out on the Breast
Care Unit of Leeds General Infirmary. The aims and
philosophy of the unit are to provide a sensitive
environment for women with breast disease and their
families.
