Conservation Model
Defined nursing as supportive & therapeutic
interventions based on scientific or therapeutic
knowledge. Nursing actions based on four principles:
conservation of energy, structural integrity, personal
integrity, & social integrity.
"Ethical behaviour is not the display of one's moral
rectitude in times of crisis," says nurse Myra Levine,
"It is the day-to-day expression of one's commitment
to other persons and the ways in which human beings
relate to one another in their daily interactions. -
Levine, Myra. (1977). Nursing ethics and the ethical
nurse. American Journal of Nursing, 77:5, p. 846.

On the Humanities in Nursing, by Myra E. Levine, in
Canadian Journal of Nursing.
Nursing is a humanitarian enterprise. The emphasis
placed on scientific and technical knowledge is
indispensable to the development of the craft - but
it is imperfectly achieved without the intellectual
skills that are the special province of the
humanities.

Research. Vol. 30, No. 4, March
1999.
